- My mother is living alone and is physically unable to get around. How can you help me with finding a nursing home for her?

As an experienced care manager, I can work with you and your mother to find the best facility to meet her needs and comfort level.

- My father is very confused and is not paying his bills on time. He has given away a large sum of money recently to someone who has been helping him in his home with cleaning and meals. What can I do to protect my father and his assets?

As a care manager, I would refer you to elder care attorneys I know and trust, who could work to secure your father's assets, and decide if a guardianship is appropriate for you to obtain for your father. I can do an assessment of his cognitive skills and see if he is experiencing signs of dementia. I can guide you to excellent physicians to do follow up care for your father, and can even take your father to the appointments.

- I am confused between Medicare and Medicaid, and am not sure which one will cover nursing home care for me when I need it. Can I protect some of my remaining money in my bank accounts to pay for my care?

I would help explain to you that neither Medicare nor Medicaid will pay for all of your nursing home care. I would be happy to explain to you your options for financing your care, and would help with referrals to elder care attorneys who are very knowledgeable in protecting your assets and help do needed estate planning.

- I live in Arizona and my parents are in a nursing home in Indiana. I am concerned about them as they have complained about the care at their nursing home. How can you help me?

As a professional care manager, I would explore and address the issues that your parents are concerned about at the nursing home. I would act as a liaison between you, the facility, and your parents to keep you informed about what is going on. I would also work with the facility to ensure the highest quality of care for your loved ones, as I act in the role of an advocate for your parents.
